Meet the owner and Clinical Director of Northwoods Music Therapy

Carolann Helding, MT-BC

NMT Fellow

Carolann is a board-certified music therapist (MT-BC) and Neurologic Music Therapist and has completed her Fellowship through the Neurologic Music Therapy Academy. Carolann holds a Bachelor of Music Therapy degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She has been actively practicing as a music therapist for 13 years, and prides herself on using music therapy techniques to serve a wide range of ages and needs.

In 2010, Carolann lead a pilot project that resulted in the addition of music therapy programming for a local adult oncology unit, inspired by her mom’s breast cancer diagnosis. Since earning her degree and certification, she has provided countless hours of patient-specific support in the medical setting working with the Palliative Care team, Adult Oncology, inpatient Neurologic Rehabilitation, Pediatrics/Pediatric ICU, and the Neonatal Unit.

In addition to her medical background, Carolann has provided in-home programming for children and adults with a variety of needs and abilities, has supported children in their school setting, and has developed group programming for older adults living with dementia, for people with chronic pain, and for women with breast cancer.

Carolann is excited to show how the scientific use of music and rhythm can drive positive change and help people live their best lives. As she uses music to guide people in reaching their goals, Carolann believes in kind and patient communication and respect, supporting unique identities and protecting individual’s dignity- no matter the challenges they are facing.
